New AI framework offers reliable, cost-effective prediction of PIK3CA mutations in breast cancer

Accurate detection of PIK3CA mutations is essential for personalizing breast cancer treatment, particularly with PI3K-targeted therapies. However, conventional molecular testing is not always accessible, and single-modality prediction models show limited performance. This study introduces a multimodal artificial intelligence framework that combines digital pathology and structured clinical data, providing a robust solution for predicting PIK3CA mutation status in breast cancer. By integrating whole-slide imaging (WSI) and clinical variables, the proposed deep learning model offers a cost-effective, scalable, and reliable alternative to traditional sequencing, with strong performance across multiple clinical datasets.
